One thing that everyone hates is having a slow computer. It annoys everyone because whenever you’re trying to do something, the computer just won’t process it and you have to wait and wait for the computer to just perform a simple task. This can not be a problem with an old PC, even a new PC can clog up sometimes. Here are some fixes that you can apply to fix a slow computer.
How To Fix A Slow Computer?
Uninstall any unused programs
One of the first things that you should do is uninstall any unused programs from your PC. There may a lot of programs on your PC and out of them, there may be some that you don’t use at all. Uninstalling those programs will not only clear up space, but some of these programs also run in the background. Uninstalling will also cease their background processes and you will see that your PC will perform much faster.
Deleting Temporary Files
Whenever you install a program or use the internet on any programs then there are some temporary files formed. These files are only useful for the time being and after that, they are permanently stored deep inside your harddisk such as browsing history or cache. These files can take-up unnecessary space on your harddisk without you even knowing about them.
Deleting these temporary files helps a lot and you can either do it manually by going to My Computer > Main Drive > Windows > Temp and deleting all the files there or you can take the help of a software that will help you in deleting those temporary files.
Upgrading your hard drive
If your PC takes ages to turn on and get ready, then the main culprit behind this could be your hard drive. Typical hard drives have a lot of different components that can take time to load up, while SSDs or Solid State Drives are much faster and can read data a lot quicker than typical hard drives. Also, if you’re running out of storage space then consider buying more storage space.
Stop automatic startups
There are many softwares that automatically start up when you turn on your PC. These programs run in the background and use the system resources without even asking. This may include programs such as Skype, Spotify, which automatically startup when you power on your PC. You can stop the automatic startups of the programs that you don’t need so, they won’t consume the system resources.
You can stop the automatic startups of programs from the Task Manager by visiting the Startup tab. From there you can block the enlisted programs from automatically starting up in the background.
Consider buying more RAM
One of the main reasons why your PC may be running slow is that it just doesn’t have enough RAM to keep different processes running at the same time and hence it lags. More RAM lets your PC run more smoothly and efficiently & you will be able to run multiple programs with more RAM. So, you should consider buying more RAM.
Run Disk Cleaning Tools
There are Disk Cleaning Tools available in the Windows utilities and these tools can improve the performance of your PC to some extent. These tools include Disk Fragment and Disk Clean Up. These tools can optimize and clean your whole system.
Installing a fresh copy of Windows
The last resort is to install a completely fresh copy of Windows. Backup all your data on Cloud or elsewhere and remove everything to start everything fresh. Installing a fresh copy of Windows will clean everything up and you will see your PC performing much better than before.
